Booking Engine general options: Quick guide
How to manage default guest count, booking confirmations, and room assignments.

Booking engine General Options allows you to manage bookings, guest preferences, and room assignments across all booking engines. Access these settings by going to Settings > Booking Engines > General Options.
1. Default Number of Guests and Guest Label
Set up default guest preferences that will apply across your booking engines.
- Default Number of Guests: Choose the starting number of guests per booking.
- Maximum Number of Guests: Set a limit on guests per booking.
- Guest Label: Customize how guests are labeled in the engine, such as “Guests,” “Adults,” “Persons,” or pet-specific terms like “Dogs” or “Cats.”
2. Booking Requests and Confirmations
Choose whether new bookings should be immediately confirmed or considered requests until you can review and confirm them.
- Go to Settings > Booking Engines > General Options.
- Under Requests or confirmations, select from the dropdown:
- Guest-made bookings are requests until confirmed: Only guest-made bookings are requests. Bookings made by your front desk team are confirmed immediately when created.
- All bookings are requests until confirmed: Both guest-made bookings and bookings made by your front desk team are requests when created.
- Automatically confirm new bookings: All bookings are confirmed immediately when created.
If bookings aren’t automatically confirmed, guests will see a Send Booking Request button and receive a Booking Request Confirmation. To confirm, open the booking's details page and select the Confirmed checkbox.
Tip: You can create custom email and SMS templates for booking requests and confirmations.
3. Room Assignment
Define how rooms are assigned for bookings from all sources—whether rooms are filled in a set order, randomly, or evenly spaced.
- Go to Settings > Booking Engines > General Options.
- Under Room assignment, choose from the following options:
- Minimize gaps: Reduces gaps between occupied rooms when possible.
- By room ID - ascending: Assigns rooms by ID in ascending order.
- By room ID - descending: Assigns rooms by ID in descending order.
- Random: Assigns rooms randomly to avoid overuse.
